The University of Michigan kidney transplant program for adults is the first, the largest and the most successful in Michigan. It also is among the leading programs in the nation in terms of volume, patient survival and transplant graft survival. Begun in 1964, more than 4533 adult kidney transplants from deceased, living-related and living unrelated donors have been performed. With five weekly evaluation clinics and seven kidney transplant follow up clinics, the kidney transplant program for adults provides convenient long term care to more than 2836 kidney transplant recipients.
As the site of the Kidney Epidemiology and Cost Center (KECC), and as an integral component of the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients (SRTR) the University annually collects and analyzes data on dialysis patients worldwide and on all transplant recipients in the United States. This makes the University of Michigan the world's leader in dialysis and transplant outcome research. Furthermore, comprehensive multi-disciplinary clinics and extensive clinical and basic science research program assure our patients access to the newest medications and technologies |
